Basepedia · Legal Document
This document forms part of the legal framework governing your use of Basepedia, together with our Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Cookies Policy. Please read it carefully.
Welcome to Basepedia. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms,” “Terms of Service,” or “Agreement”) form a legally binding agreement between you (the “User” or “you”) and Basepedia (“Basepedia,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) governing your access to and use of the Basepedia application, website, mobile app, model context protocol server, and all related services (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing, browsing, registering for, or otherwise using any part of the Service — including merely viewing a single article — you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to any part of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organisation, and the references to “you” and “User” include that organisation.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy — each of which is incorporated into these Terms by reference — form the entire agreement between you and Basepedia regarding the Service. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and another document, the document that is more specific to the matter in question prevails, except that these Terms always prevail over any conflicting term in a user-generated annotation or workspace note. We may from time to time offer additional features that are governed by supplementary terms; those supplementary terms are incorporated into these Terms by reference and apply to your use of those features.
By creating an account on or otherwise using Basepedia, you represent and warrant that: (a) you are at least 13 years of age, or the equivalent minimum age in the country in which you reside, and if you are between that age and the age of majority in your country you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf; (b) you have not previously been suspended or removed from the Service; (c) you are not located in a country subject to a government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and you are not on any list of prohibited or restricted parties; and (d) all information you provide to us is accurate, current, and complete.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide notice through the Service and by email to the address on file where you have an account. Your continued use of Basepedia after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you disagree with a change, you must stop using the Service and, if you have one, close your account. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.
Certain features of the Service may be subject to additional guidelines, rules, or terms posted or provided within the Service (for example, the acceptable-use rules, the AI-feature terms, and the MCP-server terms). Those additional terms are incorporated into these Terms by reference and apply to your use of those features. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and an additional term, the additional term prevails for the feature it governs.
Basepedia is an AI-powered research application that provides users with access to encyclopedia articles, knowledge-visualisation tools, reading-management features, and study aids. The Service includes, but is not limited to, the following features:
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time and without notice, and we are not liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuance. We may also impose limits on features (such as the number of articles you may cache, the size of a workspace, or the frequency of AI-feature calls) and may change those limits from time to time.
The Service is intended for personal, non-commercial research and study. If you wish to use the Service for a commercial purpose — for example to power a product, to train a model, or to resell access — you must obtain our written permission first, and we may impose additional terms.
To access certain features of Basepedia — including syncing data across devices, creating persistent workspaces, and using the MCP server — you must register for an account. When you register, you agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to update it to keep it accurate and current. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account, whether or not you authorised them.
You must be at least 13 years of age (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) to create an account. If you are between that age and the age of majority, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that we believe are held by individuals below the minimum age.
We use authentication mechanisms provided by our hosting platform, including secure session management and the option to verify email addresses. We strongly recommend that you use a strong, unique password and enable any additional security features offered to you. We are not liable for losses caused by your failure to safeguard your credentials.
You agree to use Basepedia only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, restrict, or inhibit anyone else's use and enjoyment of the Service. You are responsible for all your activity while using the Service. The following are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account and, where appropriate, referral to law enforcement:
We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor user conduct and content. We may investigate and take appropriate action — including removing content, suspending or terminating accounts, and reporting to law enforcement — for any violation of these Terms. We may cooperate with law enforcement and regulators in investigating suspected criminal or unlawful activity, and we may disclose your data where required by law or where we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Basepedia, our users, or others.
Basepedia — including its design, features, functionality, user interface, original content, and software — is owned by us and our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws, including copyright, trademark, and trade-secret laws. Except as expressly permitted in these Terms, you may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, or create derivative works of any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
5.1 Article content from Wikipedia: Articles displayed on Basepedia are sourced primarily from Wikipedia, which operates under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike Licence (CC BY-SA) and, for some content, other free licences. You must comply with the terms of the relevant licence when reusing article content, including providing appropriate attribution and licensing any derivative work under the same or a compatible licence. We are not the owners of Wikipedia content and assert no rights in it. The presence of Wikipedia content on Basepedia does not imply any endorsement by Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.
5.2 AI-generated content: Summaries, insights, quizzes, flashcards, translations, and other content generated by our AI features are provided for educational and informational purposes. We strive for accuracy, but AI-generated content may contain errors, may reflect biases in the underlying model or training data, and may not represent current facts. You should independently verify any critical information before relying on it. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content, and you use it at your own risk. The intellectual-property status of AI-generated content is complex and may vary by jurisdiction; you may use AI-generated content produced through the Service for your personal study, but you may not represent it as authoritative or use it commercially without our permission.
5.3 User content: You retain ownership of any content you create on Basepedia — such as notes, highlights, flashcards, and workspace materials. By storing content on the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, host, store, reproduce, and process your content for the purpose of operating and providing the Service to you, including displaying it to you, syncing it across your devices, and using it to power features such as the knowledge graph and recommendations. You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to submit your content and that it does not violate any third-party rights or applicable law. We do not claim ownership of your content; the licence you grant us is limited to operating the Service.
5.4 Trademarks: “Basepedia,” the Basepedia logo, and any other marks associated with the Service are our trademarks or those of our licensors and may not be used without our prior written consent. All other trademarks, service marks, and logos appearing on the Service are the property of their respective owners.
5.5 DMCA and notice-and-takedown: If you believe that content on the Service infringes a copyright that you own or control, you may submit a takedown notice to us through the contact channel in the final section. Your notice must include the information required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the allegedly infringing material, your contact information, a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised, and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act. We will respond to valid notices in accordance with applicable law and our repeat-infringer policy.
Several features of Basepedia rely on artificial-intelligence models that are operated by third-party providers. These features include AI article generation when Wikipedia has no article, summaries, insights, quizzes, flashcards, translations, and the insight chat. When you use one of these features, the relevant article content and any prompt you supply are transmitted to the AI provider, processed by the provider's model, and the result is returned to you and stored on your account.
You may not use AI features to generate content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, infringing, or that violates any third-party rights. We may restrict or suspend your access to AI features if we believe you have abused them.
Basepedia exposes a public MCP server that allows AI assistants to read your account's data — for example your saved articles and workspaces — when you connect the assistant to your account. The MCP server is read-only: it does not allow the connected assistant to create, modify, or delete your data.
In addition to the general conduct rules above, the following specific activities are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate account termination, permanent ban, and, where appropriate, legal action:
Violations may result in warnings, content removal, account suspension, permanent ban, and, where appropriate, referral to law enforcement or regulatory authorities. We reserve the right to take any action we deem appropriate to protect the integrity and security of the Service and our users, including terminating accounts that we believe, in our sole discretion, pose a risk to the Service.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our affiliates, officers, employees, agents, licensors, and partners disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that defects will be corrected, or that the Service will meet your specific requirements.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you. This section does not affect any statutory rights you may have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Basepedia, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of data, loss of use, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or other intangible losses — arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service, however caused and under any theory of liability (whether in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise), even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claims arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or, if you have not paid us anything, then our liability shall be limited to the minimum amount required by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of these limitations may not apply to you.
The limitations and exclusions in this section do not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — for example liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or liability for fraudulent misrepresentation — and they do not affect any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Basepedia, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual-property and privacy rights; (d) your user content; or (e) any breach of your representations and warranties under these Terms.
We reserve the right, at our own expense, to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you will cooperate with us in asserting any available defences. You may not settle any matter that imposes a liability on us or admits fault on our part without our prior written consent. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of any claim for which indemnification may be due, but our failure to notify you does not relieve you of your obligations under this section except to the extent that the failure materially prejudices your defence.
You may terminate your account and stop using Basepedia at any time by discontinuing use and, if you have one, deleting your account through the Service. Upon termination, all licences and rights granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law, or if your use creates a risk to the Service or our users. We may also modify or discontinue the Service entirely without notice. Upon termination of your account, we may delete your data, but we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as auditing, record-keeping, legal compliance, and the protection of our rights.
Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including those on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and dispute resolution — shall survive any termination of your account or of the Service.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Basepedia's principal place of business is located, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You and Basepedia agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of the courts located in that jurisdiction for any dispute that is not subject to informal resolution or arbitration as described below.
Before filing a claim, both parties agree to attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute through informal negotiation. If the dispute cannot be resolved within thirty (30) days through informal negotiation, either party may pursue formal dispute resolution. Class-action lawsuits and class-wide arbitrations are not permitted; any dispute must be brought in the parties' individual capacity, and you may not act as a class representative or participate in a class action.
Where a dispute is subject to arbitration, the arbitration shall be conducted by a single arbitrator, shall be held in the jurisdiction of Basepedia's principal place of business, and shall be conducted in the English language. Judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief from a court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual-property rights or confidential information.
If any provision of this dispute-resolution section is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
Basepedia currently offers its core Service free of charge. However, we reserve the right to introduce premium features, subscription tiers, or paid services in the future. Any fees, billing terms, and subscription conditions will be clearly communicated before you are charged, and you will have the opportunity to review and accept them before any payment is processed.
If you do not wish to be charged for a subscription, you must cancel it before the renewal date. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods except as required by law or as stated in our refund policy. If a payment fails, we may retry it or suspend the relevant feature until payment is received.
We strive to maintain high availability for Basepedia, but we do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times or that access will be uninterrupted. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to system maintenance, updates, backups, or unforeseen technical issues. We will make reasonable efforts to minimise downtime and to provide advance notice for scheduled maintenance where possible.
We recommend that you do not rely solely on Basepedia for time-sensitive tasks. If you need continuous access to content, we recommend using the offline-caching feature to save articles for reading without an internet connection. Because of the credit-based nature of our AI and integration features, AI features may become unavailable if the workspace's allocation of integration credits is exhausted; in that case, reading and workspace features remain available but AI-generated content cannot be produced until credits are replenished.
From time to time, Basepedia may offer beta, experimental, or preview features. These features are provided for testing and feedback purposes and may not be fully functional, stable, or final. They may be changed, suspended, or removed at any time without notice, and we may collect additional usage data for them to help us improve them before general release.
We encourage you to report any issues you encounter with experimental features through our feedback channels so that we can address them before general release.
Basepedia is designed as a research and educational tool. The content available through the Service — including articles, summaries, AI-generated insights, quizzes, and flashcards — is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It is not intended to serve as professional advice, including but not limited to medical, legal, financial, investment, tax, engineering, or psychological advice.
We do not accept responsibility for any harm or loss resulting from reliance on content from Basepedia. Educators and students are encouraged to verify all information against authoritative sources and to follow their institution's academic-integrity policies, including those on citation and the use of AI-generated material.
We welcome and encourage feedback, suggestions, and ideas from our users. If you provide us with feedback, suggestions, or ideas regarding Basepedia, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify, distribute, and incorporate your feedback into the Service without any obligation to compensate you or attribute you as the source. You represent and warrant that your feedback does not infringe any third-party rights and that you have the right to grant this licence.
We may use your feedback to improve existing features, develop new features, or create entirely new products, and we are not obligated to implement any specific suggestion or to respond to every piece of feedback. When providing feedback, please do not include any confidential or proprietary information; we treat all feedback as non-confidential and may share it internally or with our partners for the purpose of improving the Service. If you wish to report a security vulnerability, please do so through our official security reporting channel rather than public feedback, and we will respond in accordance with our coordinated-disclosure process.
Basepedia contains links to third-party websites and displays content sourced from third parties, including Wikipedia, image providers, and AI services. We do not control these third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or terms of use. Your interactions with third-party websites are solely between you and that third party.
When you click on a third-party link, you leave Basepedia and are subject to the terms and policies of the destination site. We encourage you to review the terms and privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
You may create content on Basepedia, including notes, highlights, flashcards, and workspace materials. You are solely responsible for the content you create and for ensuring that it complies with these Terms, with applicable law, and with the rights of third parties. We do not actively review user-generated content, but we may remove content that we believe violates these Terms or applicable law, and we may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly post violating content.
You grant us the limited licence described in the intellectual-property section to operate the Service with your content. We are not liable for the content you or other users create, and we do not endorse the views expressed in user-generated content. You should not rely on annotations or notes created by other users as authoritative.
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. You acknowledge that you have read and understood the Privacy Policy and consent to the data practices it describes.
We are committed to making Basepedia accessible to as many users as possible and to complying with accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) where reasonably practicable. The Service includes features such as dark and light themes, adjustable font sizes and line spacing, text-to-speech playback, and keyboard navigation. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us through the channel below and we will make reasonable efforts to address it.
The Service and its content may be subject to export-control and sanctions laws. You agree not to use the Service in, or to transfer content to, any country, person, or entity that is subject to sanctions or export-control restrictions that would prohibit such use or transfer. You represent and warrant that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national of any country subject to a government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any list of prohibited or restricted parties.
If you are using the Service on behalf of a government or an educational institution, additional terms may apply. Government users acknowledge that the Service is a commercial item and that these Terms govern to the extent permitted by applicable law, with any terms that are inconsistent with applicable government-use law being of no effect. Educational institutions are responsible for ensuring that students' use of the Service complies with these Terms and with the institution's own acceptable-use and academic-integrity policies.
If you have any questions about these Terms and Conditions, please contact us through the official Base44 support channel or through the in-app contact option in Settings. We are committed to providing clear and helpful responses to all inquiries about our Service and policies.
By using Basepedia, you acknowledge that you have read these Terms carefully and understand their content. If you have any concerns or need clarification about any provision, we encourage you to reach out before using the Service. Thank you for choosing Basepedia as your research companion.
